Address Coming

I just received my permanent assignment for the next 2 years. It is a small Village west of Serenje, Zambia. I will heading the next day or so to the Village for a visit with the current Peace Corps Volunteer and to meet with the people and get a feel of what is going on. I continue to feel good about my Bemba (language) and ability to communicate with the people. I hope to have my new mailing address soon. Please hold off on any mail until I update you.

I have to tell you again "Biking in AFRICA is fantastic".
Besides its the only way I have to get anywhere. The villages I will be traveling to are 5-10 miles away.

Thanks

"Moving In"

I moved in with my host Family in early February. They are quite nice people and are committed to me learning Bemba so my mind is absolutely full, they quiz me 24/7. Paul, I can't find any Acacia trees cause there are none, they are in Kenya. Ryan, send me pictures of the kids / parents from the club, and any time updates.
So, lesson time 'Ba" this is like Mr. or Mrs. but alot more versatile. So BaDan works, it means respect . Like BaRyan,
BaGary, BaFjerstad also BaMayo-Mother, Batata-Father. It sounds really cool and a little rspect on top. Another fun thing I can ask somebody is how far away something is and they can say 8 kms or 8 clicks. So basically I can use clicks as a reference and not sound silly. Another great thing I can say is that I live in "the bush". Lately I have been eating 'aghima' its cross between grits and mash potatoes. Its like temba's bread, hopefully you all know what that is. You basically don't need to eat alot of it to fill you up, I dig it.
The next two months are going to be tough, I have 8 hours of training daily with 4 hours Language training, and 4 hours training in the market "tanga market" (Ltm) so I will be pooped.
They also give us Chlorine tablets to clean our water on occasion but it makes the water taste like a pool. so I do it all the time cause I miss the taste and smell of swimming, it reminds me of HOME. I miss all of you, but I miss "LOST" the most. I am thinking when the season is done Mom will send me a DVD of the season and I will find a DVD player somewhere in ZAMBIA.

"I looked into the eye of the Island and it was beautiful."

TimberWolves, why Ricky Davis, that grinds me. It looks like you are letting the Wolves get worse while I'm in Zambia.

My daily schedule is quite structured. Modays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays

8:00-12:00     we have general training. All 30 people in my class are together.
12:00-14:00   lunch / play time
14:00-17:00   general training
17:00             Bike back to my Village, I am rated #1 Biker in Zambia, Go MTKA.

Sometimes we stay in the local Village to play soccer and don't get back till 19:00.

Saturday's - It's only 4 hours of training in the mornings. Then we are free so that's cool.
Usually we go to Kitwe or just hangout.

Sunday's - This past Sunday was Kitwe, but from now on its FRISBEE DAY !

The genesis if ny new team came about on a unusally bright African night, the moon was out and you could see quite well. So I brought out my frisbee and I learned that a couple of my Zambian friends can play, sort of.
So, I am having my language teacher translate the rules into Bemba then on Sunday we are going to try and round-up enough guys to play. It will probably be about 7 on 7 with 2-3 Peace Corps on a side. So, I know I am here for education and I'll get to that but I am starting something I can feel it.
