4月10日 I apologize I had Malaria the last time I wrote, so that is why it was alittle short. Malaria wasn't terribly bad, I didn't feel well obviously and I was only in the hospital 2 days. Also I was up and running again 2 days after I was out of the hospital. Really the only reason I was in the hospital was because I had two different types of malaria, and the parasite count was really high. Don't get to worked up or anything it sounds worse than it actually was. I am better now, so no need to worry. So that ruined my vacaction to Malawia, which is known for its massive lake. Tons of tropical type fishes, islands to swim to and all sorts of stuff. I was suppose to go from april 2-april 9 sort of an easter vacation. I had my zoomers and dragsuits and googles all on and I was ready to go, but I was stricken with malaria. Alittle upset about it, but I'll get there eventually.
Besides malaria I have been busy busy. I have got my bee keeping farmers up and running. Thou my bee hive collapsed, I am going to say it is because of the record amount of rain we have been getting. I think that is why, and I am going to stick to that. My own personal garden is going well. I have 70 tomato plants, 15 sweet pea plants, and a few of my watermelon plants are growing well. Also my groundnut field is going well I should be able to harvest at the end of the month. Hopefully I will be able to get 50kg out of the field. It is not so big, but big enough for one. I also had a fish farming volunteer come out to my village to do a workshop. So now I am trying to start up a fish farming group in my community. So we will see how that goes.
Oh I have read a 110 books so far, trying to hit 200 before I leave.
The girls camp I am helping with is going well. Myself and my friend Matt had to hold interviews with the facilitators a few weekends ago. The facilitators are all college age girls who stay in Lusaka here. It was really difficult for us, very stressfull. Other then that the planning for the camp has been going well.
So the big thing was their was a puppy plague that swept through serenje in febuary. During the rainy season alot of young dogs die, because of the various insects that come out. Most of them being poisonous and the young dogs eat them. Riddle got sick, and nearly died. He had stopped eating and was literally skin and bones, and he was doing the thing that animals do when they want to die. Like wandering off in the bush trying to die. I had to keep him locked in my porch so he wouldn't run off. I found him once just laying in the mud in the middle of a storm. I didn't know what to do, so I cycled into serenje got him some anti-biotics and cycled right back. I gave him his pills and made up a little mixture of corn meal, water, oil, sugar and salt. He hated it, I had to force feed him about every two hours. In the begining of this he would puke up his food. I wasn't terribly thrilled about this so I sat him down for alittle heart to heart and I yelled at him and told him he was done being sick. After that he got better, and stopped trying to throw his food up. Out of a litter of 8 he was the only one to survive. All his brothers and sisters died from the plague. But he is all better now, and he is turning into a good guard dog. The other night a dog tried running up on him, lets just say that dog won't being coming back at all. So riddle is 1-0.
