8月31日 Accidental vacationOk so we didn't really plan our trip out at all. Well I kind of did on the day before we left, but what would you expect. Well we left on tuesday maybe, I can't quite remeber. Anyways picked the bus at 12 didn't arrive in windhoek till 6am the next day. Ow their was a french guy on the bus and he forgot his map when he got off, so we took that as he wanted to give it to us. With out it we would of been lost. It was a really long bus ride. So namibia really developed. It is quite different then zambia. A really nice place but really german. Swakpmound is like a little german resort town crossed with san diego. And alot of the land looks like arizona. So we kind of felt like we were back in america. It was a bit strange.
So wensday (their were four of us, Matt, Mike, Chris, Me) we made two new friends. Jay and Howard, they are from Cape verde (north western africa) they just finshed being pcvs so they came with us. Anyways, Windhoek we stayed one night at a hostel had a good dinner and the bartender got us to go to some place called club shady. It was pretty shady. So the next day we got our little car for the six of us packed up and took off. Our first stop was soussusvlei were we had to sleep in our car and eat peanuts cause we didn't plan. Ow and I forgot to mention that the only reason we got this parking spot was because chris stumble into the wild life office on accident in windhoek, and asked if we could go to this place the women behind the desk said no, but (matt, chris. and I) we started speaking bemba and the lady resonsible for making the reservations noticed and she decided to let us go to the park even thou it was full cause we are charming and we speak bemba. So this park lots of sand, lots of sand, lots of sand dunes. So we sleep in the car get up at 5 go into the sand dune park and drive in for an hour. when the sun comes up the sand dunes look like the same color as snow does under moonlight except the dunes go for as far as the eye could see, and were 200 to 500 hundered meters. Yea so it was something. After that we drove to swakopmund right through the coast it was fun but creepy it looked like the border land of morder that sam and frodo passed through. yea I just said that, cause it did, and you have never been so you cant disagree. In swak, we stayed at another hostle run by miss doubtfire. She also had a jack russel, not as big or mean as carter but still.
So I jumped out of a plane. It was actually quite relaxing, I went with my two new friends from cape verde. I also went four wheeling in the dunes which was wild, ow this is where brad and angelina had there baby. But granted those two things were great, but the first night we were there we were walking to dinner and I happened to see in the distance a indoor pool, so I screamed and ran and yes is was a 50 meter lap pool. So yes I did have my suits and cap and googles with me so yes I did put in a few workouts and yes this made me very happy. So everyone here was liek why are you bringing your suits, your stupid well you never know. ha. Also after that we ate and walking home w ejust happend to stumble upon a movie theature and I know vacation don't see movies, well whatever, guess what SUPERMAN yes superman the last place in africa and it was the last showing. So after the pool and seeing the movie thing I was losing it. The movie was increadible. the part where he stomped on the plane and louis saw him fly by the look on her face. tingles lots of tingles.
So swak was fun lots of things happen on accident, made a german friend and a canadian friend and a uk friend. Each have contributed in their own way on accident of course. So that was brief but sorry, ow I saw lost of animals sorry. Well back in livingstone, kind of on a layover bus to lusaka leaves at 20. I am ready to go to the village I need to rest. so yea got to go to the bus thank you and see you later dan. 8月22日 LivingstoneHello, sorry it has been so long since my last entry but I have been mildly busy. Well if anyone has tried to email me recently it probably hasn't worked because msn destroyed my email account. Luckily it was somewhat salvaged, I kind of had a little meltdown in the internet store when this happen but what are you going to do. anyways.
For the last month I have been running around alot. First off I went to another volunteer site in july I think to learn about fish farming. Digging ponds, furrows ect. After that it was my birthday, we kind of celebrated on the forth of august it was fun. We jumped around i circles laughed sang songs so it was alright.
Ok so Camp Glow ( Girls.Leading.Our. World). This was held on aug.6-13. Each volunteer chose 2 girls 13-18yrs old for the camp. Girls that show leadership in the school basically. We had a total of 16 volunteers with 32 girls. The camp was held in mkushi, just south of serenje 100k. The camp was mainly facialitated by 7 girls that are going to college in lusaka right now. The different subjects they learned are hiv/aids, self esteem, leadership skills, ect. It was a really good time, plus each night it ended up being a dance party basically with the girls and pcv's. big drum big circle, so we learned alot of new songs.
The week after that we had IST(inservice training ) in lusaka. We had meetings everyday from 8 to 17 long long days, but I kind of made a social calender, dinners, dancing, kareoke sp? ect. for the week so that was fun. Basically there were 30 education volunteers and 30 health volunteers staying in dorm rooms basically at a college for a week. I enjoyed myself, lusaka is fun, but I miss my village. Anyways lots of movies, lots of dancing, Lots of eating.
So right now I am in livingstone, at a backpackers called jollyboys. Last night 11 of us went on a curse down the zambazi. sp? 35 dollars anything you want to drink as long as they have it. But yea I saw hippos and elephants, and there really big, like really big. Tomorrow I leave with 3 other guys for namibia. I'll arive in windhoek on thursday and from there we'll rent a car and curse around for a week or so.
So yea thats what I am doing. After vacation I am planning on holding a teachers training in my village, and then in november traveling to another village for a big hiv workshop. So yea thats future work stuff.
thanks again for everyone writing, sorry about the gap, hope everyone is well. Goodbye.
random thoughts:
~Village pigs scare me, I was chased by two of them while I was biking.
~Finally saw the new justin video, and yes its back.
~My frisbee broke, if you have seen me with my frisbee you would understand I had a meltdown. This happened at the pcv house, and all the other 16 volunteers had to draw straws to tell me, it took the 24 hours to get the nerve to bring it up. Because they stole my frisbee and used it to start a fire, and they cracked it. Slightly usable, still played some games with it. Actually all of them thought I took it quite well.
~Still undefeated, 7-0 is my record for ultimate in Africa. At IST there were a few challenge matches, Central vs. Everyone else (7-1) that was the highlight.
~My Michael Jackson Cd broke at camp glow. I cried alittle in my tent.
~Lady in the Water Sucked.
~Pirates fun, not enought Jack talking.
~At every market in zambia they sell a fabric called a chitenge. Basically its 2 meters, infinite designs. So yea I made a little satchel, man bag thing out of it, but go ahead and call it a purse. I do, and I know you all want one.
~Marathon nov.23. northwestern province
~Yea the pools done, and yes I have an infatable raft so I can lounge in the pool. |
